Bookends
This artwork embodies the foundational element binding together two pillars in the esteemed architecture of Korea, exemplified by structures like the Geunjeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Crafted meticulously from basswood through chiseling, sanding, and precision cutting, the original piece served as the template for crafting two plaster molds using a silicone negative. Executed as part of my Spatial Dynamics coursework, which explored themes of multiplicity and repetition, this piece symbolizes the diverse applications of this traditional architectural component.
Traditionally tasked with supporting significant architectural buildings, I sought to represent this piece with personal significance by presenting them as bookends. These bookends now hold integral parts to my identity, symbolizing the weight of knowledge and meaning that they hold.
